Spring-Summer 2008

SUMMERY SUNDAYS IN ENGLAND

The central theme of Scabal’s spring-summer collection 2008 is a stylish picnic in the idyllic Yorkshire countryside: a collection designed to make you dream of the summery Sundays of yore, when well-dressed young men sought out the peace and quiet of the majestic, wild moorlands on their bikes.

Although a little nostalgia never hurts, Scabal’s summer collection errs on the side of contemporary fashion too. The contrast between classic and new accents, between cool wool, silk and linen on the one hand and new materials such as bamboo and technical finishings on the other hand ensures a continuous creative tension. Scabal has always been true to tradition: a tradition, however, which always is founded on know-how that is way ahead of its time.

The campaign images are a perfect illustration of the collection’s atmosphere. Stylish elegance blends with contemporary comfort for various times of the day. The fabrics are more rustic and structured and although they often feel summery and crisp, they are always clean. The details and finishing are as always, true to the Scabal tradition, refined. Soft jackets manage to translate a casual style into a bespoke language.

The fabrics: natural versus high-tech

Noble, natural materials in every possible combination form the basis of the Summer 2008 fabric collection. Lightweight Super 100’s, pure cottons, pure linens, pure bamboo, new blends of wool and silk with linen and cotton provide comfort and keep the skin cool on hot summer days. A new feature is a wool/micro-fibre blend, which ensures fabrics are crease-resistant.

The colours: from urban to colonial

The palette of colours includes warm and cool, almost minimalist colours such as mastic, greige, grey and cool beige. Blue also puts in an appearance in every possible shade, from navy blue, to sky blue and azure, with turquoise, lilac and purple accents. The cool and soft range of colours is completed with anthracite and lighter tones of grey and metal colours. Grey suits often include a trendy finishing touch to the lining with a bolder colour. The warm palette comprises neutral natural shades of beige, sand colours, brick red, a muted khaki, and different hues of brown, from light to dark. The soft yellows manage to emphasize the collection’s summery character, while the warm glowing colours convey a slightly colonial feel.

Subtle patterns

The casual style is all about modern stripes, subtle checks and woven patterns, which become obvious depending on how the fabric catches the light. The more formal style is characterized by Prince of Wales checks, checks in refined colour combinations, patterns with faint contours, a small shepherd’s check, herringbone patterns in tone on tone colours and delicate stripe patterns with a subtle colour accent.

A new generation of suits and blazers

Scabal’s new city look manages to strike a perfect balance between a classic and relaxed feel. With its new interpretation of the English college style Scabal creates a distinctly new image, which may look casual at first glance, but manages to remain stylish at the same time. The college style includes combinations of structured or faux-uni blazers, combined in a noble manner with contrasting trousers. Sophisticated fabrics take on a more modern, relaxed look thanks to their structure. The patterns and textures provide for beautiful soft contrasts. Linen, for example, takes on a denim aspect, while combinations with ramie have a more rustic feel to them.

Comfortable suits for businessmen

Scabal manages to translate the business dress code into suits that cling to the body, in spite of the contours, which are less sharp. The light fabrics ensure maximum comfort. Summer favourites include fabrics ranging between 220 and 280 grams. New fabrics and refined combinations ensure that business suits will crinkle less, are easy to maintain and dirt-repellent. For the first time ever Scabal will be launching protective fabrics, based on a wool-silver combination, which neutralize cell phone radiation and have a stress-suppressing function. Blazers in 100% bamboo will keep the skin dry and cool.
